This is wildly good — honestly to the point I was daunted about leaving a comment to do it justice upon reading it the other day. The conversation, dialogue, the absolute REALNESS is rare, is unpretentious, is unapologetic. So needed in today’s world.
I just read your comment on my piece and it instantly reminded me to circle back to this one, sack up and share some authentic feedback where it is most deserved - DINOSAUR LEGS - what a title. And it brings the reader along to the very end to discover why…
Thank you—your words make me feel wildly good haha. I really smile at your word unpretentious here. I’m really happy it reads like that. It’s one of the reasons I chose to set the conversation in a ride share: it encouraged me to explain matter-of-factly.
I was humming last night and found the notes bending between your two songs, which I’m pretty sure means I was humming your layered version. I’m looking forward to hearing and reading more of your work moving forward.
I love how much you encourage people. You are like every artists dream supporter.
I also love the way you explored and captured your reasons for going to that THEM show. The fictional dialogue is very creative way to do that. It also seems to be becoming a style of yours which you really excel at. Your dialogue is deep and real and authentic in this way where I feel like I know something about that cab driver.
I also think it’s great that you did something so spontaneous! A great way to shake off those dinosaur legs. :)
Ever since your Dostoyevsky comment, I’ve looked to dialogue as a strategy for working out topics where there’s something tricky in my way of thinking. Even though I stripped out some of that trickiness here, it again felt natural to talk through this experience. I really appreciate that note about the driver, Brayan, feeling real. I wed together elements from my actual driver with a friend and I felt happy with the outcome. Happier now, after reading your comment :) I definitely plan to keep playing with dialogue here—it’s helpful reps for the next novel project and it reins in my instinct to explain everything down to its atoms.
Offering support feels good, which is a cool thing to say. There are things I do that benefit me alone, but when I can benefit someone else simultaneously, the fun gets amplified.
“… and it reins in my instinct to explain everything down to its atoms.”
— I totally relate to the desire to want to explain everything down to their atoms! And I agree I think dialogue is a great way to rein that in. Lately, I’ve been finding that for me, description as also helped me convey that unspeakable stuff that I want to explain down to its atoms.
Thanks Michael! Thrilled to hear your playing with dialogue in that way. :)

Thanks so much for your response (and restack!)
